It’s officially summertime and that means IAB Kid Bowler, Natalie, is back on her Striking Summer tour full force… not that school slowed her down all that much! With 32 of the continental 48 states completed, it’s time to catch you up on what Natalie did during the school year.
At the end of August, Natalie traveled to the Mid-Atlantic and hit four states in one day! That just goes to show how close Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey all are to each other! In Maryland, Natalie experienced duck-pin bowling for the first time and declared “Duck-pin is HARD!” During her trip to Delaware, Natalie got to meet former LPBA bowler, Andy Whitlock, and her Dad, Johnny DiSantis of Train Like an Athlete for Bowling. In New Jersey, Natalie got to meet two members of the Fairleigh Dickinson University bowling team, Becca Fischer and Nicolette Sarin.
In September, Fox San Antonio caught up with Natalie to talk about her mission. Check out the piece they did here:
Early October took Natalie to the northwest corner of the continental United States, with a trip to Washington and Oregon. While in Seattle, Washington, Natalie had a lesson with Gold Level coach and one of IAB’s founders, Ron Hoppe. In Oregon, she met PBA and USBC Hall of Famer Dave Husted at his bowling center. Natalie bowled with their junior league and was interviewed by the local paper.
Just ten days after that trip, Natalie made a trip to the big city. Yes, New York City. For what you may ask, to be featured on NATIONAL TELEVISION! Natalie was a special guest on “Live! with Kelly and Michael” to talk about our sport during “Learn to Bowl” Month. To see her appearance, watch below:
In November, Natalie made a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada to see the tapings of the PBA World Series of Bowling and Teen Masters. Natalie got to meet SO many people there, including: Terrell Owens, Stuart Williams, Mike Machuga, Osku Palermaa and the incredible Carmen Salvino!
Natalie hit state number 30 when she traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, in February. Continuing to pick up media attention, Natalie had yet another high profile interview in New York City with the Huffington Post. Check out the video below:
Gearing up for the summer, May was a busy month! Natalie finally got to visit the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas, and while she was there, Natalie had a lesson with three incredible coaches: Rod Ross, Bryan O’Keefe and Shannon O’Keefe. After her great trip to the ITRC, Natalie hit state number 31, Alabama, where she qualified for Junior Gold at the SSJBA Tournament! The following weekend, Natalie hit the road again to watch the recording of the television shows of the PBA Summer Swing in Oklahoma City.
Natalie officially kicked off her summer vacation bowling adventures with a trip to Boise, Idaho, where she bowled with some local youth bowlers and averaged 126 with her new Storm Wipe Out! Now she is on her way to Bowl Expo, where she will be receiving the Special Projects Award from the BPAA! Natalie will be blogging for us during her time at Bowl Expo, so be sure to check back soon!
In the words of our IAB Kid Bowler, until next time… less dashes, more slashes!
